1998 Chardonnay Barrel Fermented

Tasting Date: 9 February 2006

A very pleasant surprise: Straw gold; the wine shows seamless integration with a near ideal balance of acid, fruit and oak. There is evident maturity but no unpleasant signs of ageing with a little popcorn brulée and good viscosity, but a freshness and fruit-weight that shows the wine is at a mature plateau rather than sliding downhill: at its peak now and certainly a drink rather than hold as I feel that any further maturation will probably be to its detriment.
