2014 Pinot Noir Block 3

2014 Pinot Noir Block 3

DOWNLOAD TASTING NOTE

The wine leads with intriguing aromas of spice, leather and dried herb supported by dark fruits and delicate florals. The palate is stained dark with layer upon layer of beguiling fruit, and again the expensive leather and exotic spice. The texture and depth is impressive with mouth coating tannins that can only come from older vines and this great site of deep silt soils. Block 3 at its recognisable and richly expressive best.

New Zealand’s Pellucid Wines: More Light Than Heat , Stephen Tanzer, May 2016

(from 22-year-old vines planted to Wadenswil and Pommard clones; vinified with 25% whole clusters): Good medium-deep red. Musky black raspberry and Damson plum aromas are complemented by coffee, dried herbs and complex soil tones and lifted by a floral topnote. At once brighter and tighter than the 2013 version, conveying a lovely light touch to its blackberry, dark cherry, herb and spice flavors. But this fine-grained, suavely tannic Pinot is broad, ripe, tactile and quite long. I love the combination of saline extract and floral lift, not to mention the wine's almost chocolatey ripeness. 93 Points

Robert Parker Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, December 2015

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Block 3 Pinot Noir is fragrantly scented of freshly tilled earth, Ceylon tea, warm cranberries and red currants with a touch of Provence herbs. Medium-bodied and wonderfully elegant in the mouth, it fills the palate with satin textured red berry and earth flavors, finishing with great freshness and length. 93 points
